LCP Qualifying Course in Psychoanalytic
|
|
Who can apply? Previous working background and age Applications are welcome from candidates from diverse backgrounds such as counselling, social work, mental health as well as education and the arts. The LCP includes members whose backgrounds include publishing, school and university teaching, advertising, acting and the opera, to name a few. We welcome this variety of backgrounds and feel it contributes to the diversity and creative energy of the LCP. There are no age restrictions. Academic qualifications Trainees should have a degree or equivalent qualification. Clinical experience Applicants are expected to have had previous clinical experience or to have carried out other responsibilities for the development or welfare of individuals. They should have had a sufficient amount of experience of working in the field with other professionals before training as psychoanalytic psychotherapists. If an applicant lacks such experience, they will be required to gain it through an honorary placement during the pre-clinical phase of the training, and probably beyond. This would involve seeing at least two clients weekly under supervision in an appropriate psychotherapy clinic or department or a counselling agency. Personal psychotherapy Trainees must be in at least three-times-weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy or psychoanalysis with an LCP-approved training therapist from a year before starting training until qualification. A trainee’s personal psychotherapy is the most important part of their training and trainees are encouraged when possible to have a greater frequency of sessions. If you would like advice about finding a training therapist please contact the Chair of Training at the LCP. |
